“I was delighted to learn of the news that there are plans for a café to return to Whirlowbrook Park. I would like to pay tribute to the local residents who signed a 1,500 strong petition when the original café closed back in October of last year. They clearly demonstrated the level of feeling within the local community and no doubt their pressure has led to this potential solution being found.

“I was never convinced by the Council’s argument that a café within the park would not be financially viable. The cafes in places like Millhouses Park and Endcliffe Park are both economically successful and extremely popular with local people. I’m sure that a new facility in Whirlowbrook Park can achieve the same, even though it would not be within Whirlowbrook Hall itself.

“Although there is more work to do on the detail of the proposals, I’m pleased that local people should be able to enjoy refreshments in the beautiful surroundings of Whirlowbrook Park once again.”
