The Royal Mail are to close the South West Delivery Office on Ecclesall Road, moving the service to Pond Street in the City Centre from 4th July, despite opposition from local residents.
Nick Clegg and the local Liberal Democrats have been fighting the closure since it was first proposed in 2005.
Nick Clegg MP said
“It’s a real shame the Royal Mail have refused to listen to the community and pressed ahead with the closure of the South West sorting office.I am calling on the Royal Mail to think again."
“I will be writing again to the Royal Mail to let them know my opposition to their decision and am calling on them to think again.”
Ecclesall Councillor Shaffaq Mohammed said
“The Royal Mail now must find a way for people to access their services. Pond Street in the city centre will be difficult for people, especially older people, to access and there is no parking.”
